The All-New Evernote Web Clipper 6 for Chrome

evernote-logoEvernote has been the gold standard in note-taking software, enabling access and syncing across practically all popular platforms from Windows and Mac to mobile os's. The browser extensions, which there are several, offer more capabilities. Now the company has rolled out version 6 of their Web Clipper for Chrome and completely revamped the consumer interface in addition to adding additional features, some ones were borrowed looking at the other extensions so that you can unify the working platform.

Web Clipper allows the person to easily grab information while browsing the web, handily saving it to notebooks contained within Evernote, which makes it accessible later across many different mediums.

A New Look for an Old App

Web Clipper is among Evernote’s oldest extensions, nevertheless it certainly seems to be one with the newest, as a result of a completely revamped gui that now sprawls along the right side of the screen, looking similar to the Windows 8/8.1 Charms menu and taking along the latest features with it.

The UI, however, may be the first, and many prominent feature contained in this update. It is still accessed inside same old way - simply click the icon located in the tool bar at the top the web browser.

The sleek new black bar posesses a brief listing of menu items, accompanied by icons, the option to add tags plus a brand new share feature that lets you include your friends inside the fun.

Added Features

Bookmark has become added to version 6 of Web Clipper. As the name implies, notes created will contain a snippet of the page and the URL, which makes it easily referencable inside future. Handy, because I, for one, have clipped many notes and then not be able get the source again when I needed it.

In days gone by, there has been a separate extension called Clearly. While that still exists, some of the company's features are actually a part of Web Clipper. Clearly strips out extraneous aspects of a page, leaving merely a simple text document, permitting easier reading.

Clearly has not been the only extension whose functionality was rolled into version 6 of Web Clipper for Chrome. Skitch also makes an appearance, adding the capability to overlay shapes, arrows and text on top in the page you’re viewing, up to any photo editor are capable of doing.

To do this, a Markup section continues to be added to the menu, containing a highlighter, marker, arrow, type, stamp and pixelator. Simply snap your image then choose the tool you want to use. If you change your mind, hit ESC and you’ll go back to the original page.

Sharing, which I stated earlier, is additionally present, allowing you to easily send content via email in order to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Click the Share button at the bottom from the menu.

Evernote is really a superior app for grabbing all kinds of useful information while traveling the web, especially when doing research. The one knock I have had on it has been the number of different extensions had to do all that's necessary. With version 6 in the add-on, Web Clipper begins the duty of uniting these various services, bringing in elements of Clearly and Skitch, as well as adding more features, while managing to hold the service from feeling or looking bloated.
