Apple Developer Site Infiltrated - Encrypted User Data Remains Safe [Updates]

Some readers may know that Apple’s Developer Site was shut down for unspecified maintenance on Friday for approximately 24 hours. However, Apple confirmed on Sunday until this was due to a security breach.

According to TechCrunch, who spoke with an Apple representative for the phone, basic user iTunes accounts just weren't accessed and plastic card data has not been compromised. However, the actual member login for your Apple developer site confirms that an “intruder” tried to access the site.

“Sensitive private information was encrypted and cannot be accessed, however, we have not been able to rule out the possibility that some developers’ names, mailing addresses, and/or contact information may have been accessed,” a communication on the member login screen read. “In the spirit of transparency, we should inform you of the problem. We took your website down immediately on Thursday and still have been working around the clock since then.”

Apple waited 3 days after the member site was shut down so that they could give you a more educated public a reaction to the entire situation. No specified timetable continues to be announced as to when the site will be support. Furthermore, developers whose accounts were set to expire during this time period have received an extension and their app will continue available to the population.

With nevertheless, developers will be unable to download current iOS and Mac OS X SDKs for some time. Aspiring developers will probably be unable to enroll in a member account at the same time.
