So here is the story: you built a cool open source project and shared it to the world for free. Then, it suddenly got really popular, so when more and more people appear in to download assembling your shed files, your server takes a toll. Maybe it is time to host assembling your shed on a Github Page.

Many popular and notable projects are hosted on Github like Bootstrap, Prefix-free and Normalize CSS, for starters. And within this post we are going to show you step-by-step the way to create one for your own use.

Tools for Managing Web Projects - Best of

Step 1: Github Account and Project Repository

First of most, before you are able to develop a Github page, you want a Github account, and then you also need to create assembling your shed repository. You can easily build a new project repo through the use of Github application, that is available for both Windows and OS X.

Step 2: Create Local Repository

Assuming which you have an existing project able to publish, it is possible to open the Github application - with this example, I’m using the one for OSX - and add it your Local Repository. To do so, go through the “+” button that is found at the bottom of the applying. Then choose the folder that you saved the project.

Step 3: Push to Github

After creating the Local Repository, you need to push it to Github. At this point, until you have a Pro account in which you are able to set your project to Private, it will be designed for the public at Github, and therefore anyone can download and fork any project.

Step 4: Create Github Page

Creating a webpage for assembling your shed, go to any project repository - usually github.com/username/project-name.

And visit the Settings page. This is where you setup any project repo, that will create the page correctly.

Step 5: Change Title and Content

Now, it’s time to change the title, this content of assembling your project page (in Markdown), of course, if you want to, you'll be able to also insert your Google Analytics ID to permit tracking of people to your page. If you are done editing the information, it is possible to Continue to Layouts.

Step 6: Select Page Theme

Github has provided several themes to choose from for your page. If the themes usually do not meet your taste, you are able to create and design your own with an index.html and stylesheet (perhaps in another tutorial).

Step 7: Publish the Page

Lastly, go through the Publish button, and allow Github around 10 minutes to process your page.
