My primary work computer is really a 13-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro. I don't pretend I'm slumming it on this kind of machine, but the display may start to feel cramped with the middle of the day when I have plenty of apps running and windows open. I end up finding myself resizing windows, particularly if I want to drag folders from one location to drop it in another. With Mac app Yoink, I have a convenient way station where I can stash files when moving these phones and fro.

Yoink is on sale within Two Dollar Tuesday. Also, on the developer's Web site, there is a free 15-day trial, but with the time the trial ends, Yoink will be back at its regular $3.99 price.

After Yoink installs, it places an icon in your menu bar and hides along the left fringe of your display. When you start dragging data or folder, Yoink helpfully slides out a smaller panel from the side of your screen, providing a short lived spot to drop your files. You can then drag the files from Yoink to an alternative folder or application. It's particularly helpful should you frequently use full-screen apps. You can drag all manner of file to it, links and images from your Web browser, and even items from a stack with your Dock.

If you highlight multiple files and drag them into Yoink's panel, it keeps them like a stack. You can visit a button right of the stack in Yoink to spread out the files in Yoink for individual dragging and dropping from Yoink. Using the Command key, you can also highlight multiple files in Yoink to maneuver.

You can remove a file from Yoink by clicking around the X button to its right, then there is also a preview button for every file. Clicking for the broom icon within the bottom-right corner sweeps out all files from Yoink's panel.

In Yoink's preferences, you can select the location of Yoink's helpful panel. By default, it appears in the center from the left edge, but you'll be able to move it up or bottom from the left edge or perhaps the right edge. You can also tell Yoink to ignore certain apps, whether its behavior interrupts your workflow inside a particular application. You can also select a keyboard shortcut to exhibit and hide Yoink's panel. In advanced preferences, it is possible to choose whether items dragged away from Yoink stay or go, and you may also tell it getting in touch with combine multiple files inside a stack.
