Using Refresh and Reset in Windows 8 [Video]

In Windows 8 there are some easy options to refresh and reset Windows. these choices different so it's best to know which to use to get your preferred result.


To refresh your PC


  1. Swipe in through the right fringe of the screen, tap Settings, after which tap Change PC settings.
    (If you’re using a mouse, indicate the upper-right corner with the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

  2. Under PC settings, tap or click General.

  3. Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, tap or click Get started.

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.


If you imagine an app or driver which you recently installed caused problems with your PC, you can restore it to an earlier stage, called a restore point. System Restore doesn’t alter your personal files, however it might remove recently installed apps and drivers.

This is why refresh is good.


To reset your PC


  1. Swipe in from your right side of the screen, tap Settings, then tap Change PC settings.
    (If you’re using a mouse, point out the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

  2. Under PC settings, tap or click General.

  3. Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
