How often have you found yourself regretting an iOS app update? Previously, there is no fast and simple way to cancel one before its completion once started, producing apps that are either forever stuck inside the ‘updating…’ phase unless you get access to a comfortable internet connection, or, in most odd cases, updated to less functional versions - such as when YouTube restricted certain top features of FoxTube/Jasmine for iOS. Thankfully, we've come across a solution to quickly undo the update operation,  due to Cydia tweak CancelUpdate by Plipala. Check it out after the jump.

There are two situations where CancelUpdate comes in use.

The first is the place you start an app update over a wonky internet connection. This has happened with this writer numerous times; I look into the App Store to find new update for the most popular apps, and tap ‘update all’ before realizing my Internet connection is really unstable or that I’m moving out from my Wi-Fi coverage area to GPRS/EDGE-only outdoors. Because of this, the apps being updated remain stuck in the unwelcome limbo until I connect to a comfortable, high-speed connection. It feels worse when it happens with crucial apps like Pocket, Drafts, Mailbox etc. that particular needs to work with offline.

In the 2nd situation, you forget you just read the changelog to the updated version, if the developer added additional features and fixed old bugs. It is only later whenever you come across conditions you inform yourself online to locate that said update actually cuts down on the app’s functionality! This has happened regularly recently, especially with YouTube and Twitter apps, which have to deal with strict API policies.

Both situations may be resolved with CancelUpdate. While your app is updating, you'll be able to tap and hold its icon to penetrate ‘jiggle mode’, from where it is possible to tap around the ‘X’ within the top left corner to cancel the update. You can see it doing his thing below:

CancelUpdate is a one-trick pony of a jailbreak tweak, so we like it doing this. There are no settings to configure, or an app icon to tuck away within an ‘Extras’ folder; just install it, and will also add its functionality towards the OS right away.

You will, of course, need to be over a jailbroken iOS device to utilize this tweak. If you haven’t broken your device totally free of Apple’s shackles yet, follow our post on the way to jailbreak iOS 6 untethered.

CancelUpdate can be acquired as a free download from Cydia under BigBoss repo. Be sure to inform us what you think regarding it by leaving a comment below.
